Emil
Steinberger, M.D., F.A.C.E.
Founding President of TIRME, retired. Clinical Professor, University
of Texas Medical School at Houston and Adjunct Professor, U.T. School of
Public Health. Dr. Steinberger has over thirty years experience in clinical
practice, research and administration in the field of Reproductive Medicine
and Endocrinology. A graduate of the State University of Iowa College of
Medicine in 1955, he received specialty training at the Wayne State University
Medical School and then served as a senior medical research officer (USNR)
at the National Naval Medical Center. He was from 1965 to 1971 Chairman
of the Department of Endocrinology and Human Reproduction at Albert Einstein
Medical Center, and then from 1971 to 1983 Chairman of the Department of
Reproductive Medicine and Reproductive Biology at the University of Texas
Medical School at Houston. In 1983, in collaboration with two of his associates,
Drs K.D. Smith and L. Rodriguez, he established the Texas Institute of
Reproductive Medicine and Endocrinology (TIRME). Dr. Steinberger has received
numerous awards and honors for his work, culminating with the award by
Regents of the University of Texas of the distinguished Ashbel Smith Professorship
in 1983. He is the author or co-author of over 350 research publications,
reviews and books in Reproductive Medicine and Endocrinology. He has served
as editor of various medical and scientific journals and as a member of
various government, scientific and industrial committees and panels. Dr.
Steinberger actively participated in various scientific and postgraduate
activities on the national and international scenes. He retired in December,
2000 and has lately been working on his personal website.
